Build a strong foundation in plastering

Ten practical training days covering plasterboard installation, skimming and basic repairs. Designed for beginners, career changers and tradespeople who want structured, repeated hands-on practice rather than a quick demonstration.

10 days · 9:00am–3:00pm · Maximum 4 learners per class · £1,290

What you’ll do across ten days

You’ll work on real surfaces in a training bay. The course moves from preparation and boarding through the full two-coat skimming process, then gives you more time to repeat the work and improve. The order of exercises can change with the group and your progress.

  • Prepare the job: assess wall and ceiling backgrounds, prepare surfaces and understand where different materials and bonding agents are used.
  • Install plasterboard: measure, cut and fix boards using dot-and-dab and screw-fixing methods, then work around edges and openings.
  • Form clean details: fit beads to corners and edges and prepare the boarded surfaces for skimming.
  • Mix and apply plaster: handle materials and tools safely, manage setting times and apply the two-coat process to walls, ceilings and plasterboard.
  • Finish the surface: practise flattening, trowel control and the timing needed for a smooth finish.
  • Make repairs: carry out basic patch work and learn how to blend a repaired area.
  • Build consistency: repeat complete sections, correct common mistakes and improve your sequence, finish and confidence over the additional training days.

More time on the tools

You’ll see demonstrations, then do the work yourself with guidance and feedback throughout. The ten-day format gives you room to revisit techniques, tackle larger or more demanding surfaces and develop a dependable working routine. It is a practical foundation, not a promise that you’ll be a fully qualified plasterer after ten days.

Who it’s for

Choose this option if you want more supervised practice than the two- or five-day courses, whether you’re learning for DIY projects, exploring a change of trade or adding skimming and boarding to your existing skills.
