Learn plastering hands-on over five days

Build practical skills in skimming, plasterboard and repairs with guidance in a small group. This course suits complete beginners, DIY learners and tradespeople who want more time to improve their finish.

5 days · 9:00am–3:00pm · Maximum 4 learners · £649

What you’ll do over the five days

You’ll spend your time working in your own training bay, watching a demonstration, trying the method yourself and getting feedback as you go. The exact order can be adapted to the group, but the training builds from preparation and tool control towards complete surfaces and repeated practice.

  • Get the surface ready: assess walls and ceilings, prepare different backgrounds and learn when bonding agents are needed.
  • Mix and handle plaster: practise the right consistency, setting times and control of your hawk and trowel.
  • Skim properly: apply the two-coat process to plasterboard and solid backgrounds, then flatten, close in and finish the surface at the right time.
  • Work around details: fit angle beads and practise clean corners, edges and joins.
  • Board and repair: work with plasterboard, carry out patch repairs and blend damaged areas into the surrounding finish.
  • Repeat and improve: use the remaining practice time to work on speed, consistency, common mistakes and a more reliable routine from preparation to final finish.

How the training works

This is practical training, with demonstrations, individual time on the tools and feedback in a group of no more than four. You won’t spend five days sitting in a classroom. You can ask questions as you work and practise a technique again before moving on.

Who it’s for

Come as a beginner, build confidence for work on your own property, or use the longer course to sharpen skills you already have. Five days gives you more practice than a two-day introduction; results still depend on practice after the course.

What’s included

Tools and materials are provided. Wear old clothes and work boots; plastering is physical and messy.

Choose a date

This is practical training. It is not an NVQ or a City & Guilds qualification.
